    About me

I'm Alagan, an engineer and computer scientist originally from Colombo, Sri Lanka. My entrepreneurial spirit was ignited during my university days, leading to the creation of Singify, an AI-powered karaoke app. This early venture paved the way for my role as the Founder and CEO of Rootcode. Today, we're a growing global force in software product engineering with over 110 dedicated employees, focusing on complex developments in artificial intelligence, software development and user experience design.

At Rootcode, we've harnessed Estonia's cutting-edge digital environment, which provides 24/7 remote access and streamlined digital services. This enables my team and me to efficiently manage our global operations and scale our business to meet emerging opportunities worldwide. Being based in Estonia, with its transparent and EU-aligned environment, enhances our credibility with clients and partners.

It's exciting to lead a team that recently won the Estonian government tender to build an AI model training and deployment platform for key government services. This achievement underscores our commitment to innovation and our role in shaping digital governance.

Beyond our core business, I'm passionate about making a difference through the Rootcode Foundation, which supports educational initiatives and fosters technology skills among underprivileged youth.

"I am honored to be an official Envoy for e-Residency and represent Estonia and the e-Residency program that has revolutionized how businesses operate globally, providing access to Estonia's strong digital infrastructure and enabling entrepreneurs from around the world to start and manage their EU businesses efficiently."

    My journey

    2019
    I became an e-resident
I picked up my e-Residency card back in July 2019 during a business trip to San Francisco. It was a game-changer. Right from the sign-up process, I was blown away by the seamless ecosystem, the user-friendly e-services, and the simplicity of starting a company. It was an experience that surpassed my expectations, making the transition smoother than I could have imagined.

    2019
I registered my first company as an e-resident
I became an admirer of the streamlined business environment in Estonia and the ultra-efficient e-services. We opened our European HQ in Estonia and over the years, it has enabled Rootcode to scale up in Europe. Rootcode Labs, based in Sri Lanka, is part of a thriving tech community, but registering within the EU would open up new avenues for collaboration with European companies. With Estonia's reputation for innovation and efficiency, I find it particularly appealing to consider it as the EU home for Rootcode.
